Finding mini accessories
Hello all. I sometimes get asked where I source my 1:24 accessories so I decided to write a blog post about this. It’s not an exhaustive list but will hopefully set you on the right path. 1:24 scale accessories can be hard to find!
I get a lot of metal minis and paint them, from Virtual Dollhouse. The store owner also has little glass items and other bits and pieces. I often use accessories in other scales, like statues/ornaments, bowls or vases, if they are small enough. For example, a 1:12 soda glass makes a great vase or urn. Also try 1:48 stuff or tiny 1:144 stuff for ornaments, toys or doll furniture.
Volker Arnold Miniatures is great for some different accessories like models, toys, dollhouses, lanterns and European Christmas things. Some of these I used in my gypsy wagon and doll shop.
I also make some accessories like plates and bowls from silicone moulds. I try to get them from Ebay as they tend to be cheaper ($2-5). They are often sold as nail art molds. I have all sorts of moulds now including seashells, croissants, cupcakes, macarons, plates and bowls. Take a look at the listing pictures and try to find ones with tiny versions (eg my croissant and macaron moulds have about 5 different sizes and the tiniest ones are perfect for 1:24).
I have also found cheap pots, pans and kettles in 1:25 scale on Ebay.
Severn Models has some good little bits and pieces but I have not purchased from here. I have seen people posting about them online so I believe they are good to deal with.
And I buy lots from Jennifers of Walsall. The owner is really good and usually has really quick shipping. I love the Phoenix metal miniatures.
There are of course lots of artisans out there making a range of amazing 1:24 scale accessories. The trick is finding them or going to shows! Etsy is also a good source.
I hope this helps a little. If you have any other suggestions, I’d love to hear them!
