A little wreath to make

Hi all. Welcome to my blog! I am starting this blog off with a little wreath project. Mine was very simple but you could make it more elaborate. I have given a suggestion for other materials as you may not find the same florist moss as I have.

Rustic wreath project

Supplies:

Fake moss or something similar

Ribbon

Tiny picture frame

Other decorations as desired

Tacky or craft glue

I purchased this roll of fake florist moss, which is fine brown wire all mashed together with flocking stuck to it, from Spotlight (craft store in Australia). It is useful because, being wire, it tends to hold its shape. I teased it out using pliers (because when I used my fingers, it shredded my fingers....). Wind small long strands around your fingers to the size you want, then twist and wrap some strands around to hold the shape together. Build it up to the desired thickness.

A 1:24 and a 1:12 wreath

Alternative: if you can’t find anything similar to my wire moss, you could use fine wire twisted together with model railroad flock glued on.

Make a tinsy bow, or a big one if you want. I used 2mm silk ribbon on my 1:24 scale wreath. I tied the ribbon around the heart then tied a small knot just above that. Then I tied the ribbon around the wreath and glued the ends of the ribbon together. I made a tiny bow, put a dot of glue on the knot, then cut off the tails and glued the bow to the wreath. Once the glue dried, I dampened the ribbon, pulled it straight and waited for it to dry.

Other ideas:

You could of course make a traditional wreath with flowers or fruit, or use tiny houses, candles, pinecones, etc for a Christmas wreath. Tiny mushrooms, birds, squirrels, etc would be very cute for an autumn, woodsy feel, or pastel colours, eggs and bunnies for Easter. You could also leave the wreath plain for a pared back modern look or rustic look.
